Description
Summary:This article examines times of rhetorical and hermeneutic redefinition, using the period between 1250 and 1750 to develop parallels with Augustine's time and that of the twentieth century. S. also seeks to understand the rift that presently divides secular and religious hermeneutics. Augustine is seen as living in a time with parallels to present-day multiculturalism. The focus, however, is on the study of the experience of the thirteenth to the eighteenth centuries, such that their reading of Augustine is given more attention than is an analysis of texts and usages of Augustine's time.
