Il propose une série de comparaisons d'ordre anthropologique: les âmes, leur origine, leur chute, la liberté et la prédestination, d'ordre cosmologique: le problème de l'éternité du monde, et d'ordre christologique. C'est un programme à détailler. Le platonisme intervient notamment en la personne de Porphyre (cf. p. 226ss.); mais, pour ma part, j'estime que ce n'est qu'en un sens large, d'un vague embarrassant, qu'on peut affirmer: 'The two greatest theologians of the ancient Church are both Platonists through and through' (p. 218).
